The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – Almost A Great Movie
One of the most interesting things about movies these days, is the brilliant way they are promoted. Few previews have gotten me personally excited as much as the first movie trailer I saw for “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty“. The music, visuals, and scenes shared within the preview made me believe this movie would be one of those rare diamonds that really make you feel something. The kind of movie that touches your soul in such a way as to make us think more, and potentially be more, just because we watched it. While I highly recommend this movie, as it is much better than most of the movies that come out each year, it was not quite what I had hoped it would be. Still, nothing wrong with making a good movie, that has some great moments. A lot of people were not impressed, but I really enjoyed this most everything about it, although I found everything about it just not quite as great as it could have been. All that being said, some of the scenes are amazing, long boarding down a curving mountain highway towards a volcano about to erupt. Jumping into the ice cold ocean, or climbing the Himalayas, are just a couple of the more than surreal moments throughout the movie. Perhaps what I liked most about this movie though, was the constant evolution of the main character Walter Mitty, not into something more than he had ever been, but rather back into who he used to be, before life sort of beat him into submission. Therein lies a beautiful lesson for us all, returning to the ideals, hopes, dreams, and aspirations of our youth, might be one of the best things any of us could ever do within our lifetimes. Remembering how we felt and thought about life, before we became jaded or cynical, this is a precious gift to think more about, and perhaps to be more like if we can. So, I hope you enjoy “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” at least as much as I did, and maybe, just maybe it will bring you a little closer to the thought process that can bring real and lasting happiness to your life…..or, at the very least, give you a couple laughs to brighten what might be an otherwise ordinary day.
