Do IT NOW….A Funny Story by W.J. Vincent II
So a funny story just happened as I am working here in my home office at 3:30 AM on a Saturday Night or Sunday Morning actually. The days, weeks, months, and years since my wife Natalia passed away, have been the most challenging of my life. Many projects have been started, few have been finished. One of the hallmarks of my most successful years throughout the many different businesses I have been involved with, was the philosophy of getting things done now rather than later. I commemorated this philosophy about 20 years ago by getting a “DO IT NOW” plaque from Successories to put on my desk. It helped to keep the maximum productivity goal always in the forefront of any day. Well, I just discovered that this plaque was still in my office…lying face down and out of view, probably for the better part of the last 3 years. Is it a coincidence that the last 3 years have found me decidedly less productive than usual?
There have been many metaphors written about the “River of Life”, but I have always felt that on a lot of levels….the “Ocean of Life” is far more appropriate. The beautiful blue wave you see in this post, started at one point as an invisible ripple that slowly gained energy and momentum until it grew into the powerful physical manifestation of change captured in this picture. In my experience any business venture, relationship, hobby, or passion any of us has in life starts out the same way. So many of us walk around with hopes and dreams that we keep putting off until tomorrow so they never arrive in our lives. Just like the wave that slowly grew, invisibly below the surface, so it is with our lives. Every time we choose to “DO IT NOW” instead of later, we build that momentum for change in our lives. The more often we “DO IT NOW”, the faster we grow whatever it is we are working towards. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when I found this beautiful reminder face down in my office. Maybe you will join me in remembering once again the importance of getting done right now everything we can rather than putting it off until tomorrow. Doing so will begin to create tiny invisible changes that will one day grow into powerful waves that will carry us to our dreams. Good luck and success to all of you, and remember…All of us become successful the very second we start working on a worthwhile goal!
